Careers to consider & avoid if your goal is happiness/fulfillment
The video starts with a direct question and on-screen text addressing a common problem, immediately grabbing viewers who are unhappy in their careers.
“If you are unhappy in your career and but have no idea what you even want to pivot into this video might give you some ideas.”
The creator establishes credibility by sharing her personal experience with a career crisis and explaining her methodology for gathering data from her audience.
“I shared that we're going through the great millennial career crisis this year at 35 years old. I decided I need to pivot but still have no idea what I want to do. So I decided to ask my audience two questions, which fields are you unhappy in? And which fields are you actually feeling fulfilled and satisfied in? I got almost 500 responses in total.”
The video provides actionable insights by listing the top 5 unhappy career fields, offering valuable information to those seeking to avoid similar paths.
“Here are the results. The top five responses where people feel unhappy are the top five fields, starting with No. 5 HR, admin, and corporate roles. No. 4 was a tie between finance, accounting and sales. No. 3, education and teaching. And then number two kind of surprised me. Uh, I had no idea there were so many unhappy people in this field marketing, media and PR. And then the top response, can you guess it? Healthcare.”
The creator reveals a common theme among unhappy careers (high responsibility, high pressure, structured roles) and contrasts it with the driving factor for satisfaction, building a clear differentiator for viewers.
“Basically my takeaway from that was high responsibility, high pressure, very structured roles from my perspective. Now the happy people, the ones who felt satisfied and fulfilled in their careers, I thought this was really interesting. There was a common theme amongst responses that appeared to be the driving factor in satisfaction, and it had nothing to do with the actual job or career. Because people from all different careers said this. It was a sense of autonomy, flexibility, and if possible, the ability to work from home. The people want a sense of control over our own lives, surprise, surprise, and over our own schedules. I feel this in every cell of my body.”
The video offers positive career examples, including self-employment and specific niche roles that align with the identified satisfaction factors.
“So now I'm going to share some of the responses that I got from the happy group. 24% of them came from people who were self people want to call their own shots. I get it I'm the same. The happy people, here's what they said, and a lot of them are running their own business. We had a window washing business, a couple of cattle ranchers, a dental hygienist, esthetician and spa owner, dog sitting, wedding photography business, software sales, and then notably software sales in construction, said booming with lots of money to be made here, especially if you're a female. Uh, specialized medical fields, cancer research, speech, language pathologist, occupational therapist, hospice nurse, midwife, and then this was interesting, 'cause there was a lot of unsatisfied people in HR, but there was also satisfied people, an HR director, HR technology and HR business partner. Non-profit work, stay at home moms.”
The creator encourages engagement by asking for comments and sharing the video with others, expanding its reach.
“So if I missed any please drop them in the chat and if somebody you know is considering a career pivot, maybe send them this video.”
